Hello dear friends.
Since a long time passed without any posts from me, I never got to comment on the "scariest film of all time" according to the papers, Paranormal Activity. Would love to hear opinions on it.
I had great expectations of the film when it was announced. Not everyday we see a film about real people trying to record scientific proof of the Paranormal. Not only it was an excited idea, it brought to mind the possibility of our TV show's resurrection by the sponsors, following on the success of the film.
I dared not to try and watch it on the first week of release, expecting long queues at any cinema, so I overheard some comments about the film. Some people said it was really scary and they felt bad for the two supposed real people involved. Some people said it was really boring and nothing much happened. I started to form an idea of how the film would play, showing the couple taking readings or recordings and analysing it later.
I was really disappointed at the final result. Yes, it was a great haunting story. No, they are not real people. The recordings are a great idea, but there's no scientific mention at all in the film and the only type of contact with the entity they try is the board, which is lame in my opinion, although it made for a great scene on the film.
All in all, I'm still waiting for a descent film on the paranormal, one that shows the true science behind detecting it and fighting it off, if necessary.
My favourite bits were the footsteps and the girl walking outside without knowing.
So, does anyone agree? Or disagree?
Miles.

I agree, I was disappointed. I was also very excited about the prospect of a decent paranormal film as few modern ones are any good. However I felt it was very slow and not really scary at all. It has the same formula as the Blair Witch Project, except was based in a house instead of the forest. The only bits which I enjoyed were when she went outside without knowing, when she was wrenched and pulled out of the bed and the very last bit when she came up close to the camera with her freaky face. Of course they were not real characters, who ever thought they were?!! All in a a big build up for something I thought had essentially 'been done' before. A good one is the Exorcism of Emily Rose, have you seen that? (not really about recording the paranormal but its entertaining) I also love the original Omen, Exorcist and of course, Poltergeist.
