It happens all the time, you move into a new house and it just doesn't feel right. Sure, the kitchens a little bigger, there's more space for your things, but there's just something not right about this new place. Then, one night, maybe it's the first night, you hear something, a creek in the floorboard, something moving, and then you can't sleep. You wake up in the morning and maybe investigate what it was you heard, but you find no evidence to say that the thing you heard last night can be explained. You decide that it was possibly a ghost, maybe this place is haunted, in fact it is. At that point, with no evidence to the contrary, you decide that your house is haunted and every noise you hear at night, every weird feeling you get, you can blame it on the ghost. Every night you leave the butter out or the television on, you can blame it on the ghost. This happens all the time, around the world, people make their own homes haunted, i have met a few of them, and even if you show to them the evidence against their belief, they are convinced.
The other day i met a family friend, Alison Knox, at my aunts birthday party.
She knew, through my aunt, that my father and i were into this sort of thing. So she told us her story.
It sounded like every New house story that we had ever heard.
Until she told us that every morning she wakes up, there is a patch of blood on her bedroom carpet.
Then we were intrigued.
So we heard the story last Friday, and on the Saturday, we were round her house early. We had a walk around the house, and then broke out the equipment.
The rest of the day was dedicated to readings, a little lunch break around four, but still working through until eleven. At that time we headed home, we very rarely stay the first night on a household investigation. The next morning we return, and as it is every morning, there was a small patch of blood on her bedroom carpet, something that wasn't there before as she cleans it up every morning.
My father examined the spot, he's no blood expert, but he said that it did look a lot like blood and that he had no reason to believe that it was anything but. For the rest of the day, we took more readings, and decided that we would stay over that night and hold a video vigil in the bedroom.
At midnight, we finished up our baseline readings and headed to the bedroom. We set up the camera and the new sound recorder we have just picked up.
We waited for a while, but it actually wasn't long before we got some activity. The clear sound of someone walking along the hall could clearly be heard. We didn't want to move and disturb whatever it was, so we stayed still. We could hear movement outside the door, and the hairs on the back of my neck began to stand on end.
The bedroom door opened, i took a deep breath in and held it for what felt like five minutes. slowly the door opened fully, but there was nothing behind it. I checked the tri-meter and the temperature had begun to drop, nothing was happening in the magnetic field. We watched the carpet looking for the blood to appear, but nothing. Then, after about a minute or so, there was this silence in the room, it was like there was no air, i couldn't eve hear the camera recording, so i had to check it was.
BOOM!
Without a moments notice the door slammed shut, it was so loud and quick it even made my father jump. He stood up and said it was over.
We stayed up through the night, continuing to take readings in the bedroom, but everything normal. My father knew that we were not going to see anything new that night/morning, but if we are to return this weekend, or next, we need to continue our baselines.
Alison was downstairs making tea by the time we had finished for the night. We went downstairs and told her that there is no blood on the carpet this morning, but that we believe that there is a presence in her home and we would return to continue to investigate.
She was relieved, she wasn't crazy, and at least, if only for this morning, she doesn't have to clean.
we headed home to go over the footage, unfortunately, nothing really showed up on the camera, only what we saw, the door opening and then slamming shut. Same with the sound recorder - nothing but the door.
We're going to return hopefully next weekend. I'll try and post the video footage soon.
